It's 10:30. Way, way, way past my usual bedtime of ohhh, 9:30. Sometimes earlier. But I felt compelled to update all three of you on Emma's big boo-boo...
As of yesterday afternoon she has been cast-free!
Handled the whole thing like the trooper that she's been for the past two weeks. Except when they pulled out the saw & had to carve it off her little leg. You can't imagine how painful it is to watch your baby screaming her head off, yelling "ALMOST DONE??? ALMOST DONE????" while clutching her blanket & Elmo for dear life.
After the cast was taken off, we had to get xray'd to make sure everything was okay Again Emma screamed her lungs out - I had to listen from the hallway what with being preggers and all. She had to go in with Bubbie - which she now says perfectly - even better than Jeff, who still calls her Boobie, as wholly inappropriate as that is. But it was far better than the first x-ray visit (duh - she was in pain then), and much better than the sawing (duh - they held a SAW up to her LEG).
And lastly, we had to await the results of the x-rays. And the results saw all is fine, exactly as expected. Healing very nicely, no need to put the cast back on, which was my biggest fear. I asked how/when/if she'd be able to walk on it right away, and the orthopedic specialist said she could walk on it right away, but she would likely be very sensitive, treat it gingerly, and what not. That said, I wasn't in a rush to shove her little foot into her running shoe (the only shoe I brought to the hospital - stupid, stupid... should have brought a sandal). So she remained seated till we went home.
And when it was all over & done, Emma made sure to say a hearty "B-BYE!!" to EVERYONE - doctors, nurses, other patients, people in the waiting room... she was just so beyone THRILLED to be done with the hospital. It's amazing how she just 'gets it'.
And then we piled in the truck & headed home...
As soon as we got in the house, my mother set her on the sofa and we watched to see how she would stand, if she would even dare.
First thing she did was JUMP off the couch. And run.
So much for the sensitivity.
