Happy Father's Day

Father's Day 2005

So today we celebrated Jeff's first Father's Day. I feel bad that I didn't make more of a big deal out of it, but then we didn't do anything for my first Mother's Day. Apparently I don't feel that bad after all. Had a nice day with my family, celebrating poolside, bbq-style. An event that has taken place every 3rd Sunday in June since the beginning of time. All the regulars showed up - the Wyman's (all five of them), Sara, Bubbie D, Lori, Adam, Barb & Fryam. Small crowd this year, what with half the invitees not bothering to respond to their invitations, but in the end we were all glad with the turnout, and didn't miss any of those that couldn't take the time out of their busy schedules to email a simply yay or nay to my mother's gracious invitation.

That being said, I will now take a quick minute to mention just how great of a dad Jeff is to our little Em. Not that I'm the least bit surprised, as I always knew he would be good, but he's even better than that. And while it's expected that Emma obviously loves him (he is part of the reason she's here after all), she also truly likes him - it's plastered all over her little face. She lights up as soon as she lays her eyes on him. She has that look that says "He's my Dad!" (She's a girl of few words.)

From giving up weekend golf to spend time taking her on father/daughter outings in the Baby Bjorn to Home Depot and Big Al's Aquarium Superstore, to rushing home after work as early as possible (almost!) every day simply to say 'good-night' before she goes to bed. For going to work as late as possible every morning so he can spend just one more minute, not wanting to miss anything at all. For being so excited with each new accomplishment; from rolling over to sitting up, from eating rice cereal to applesauce. For dancing in the kitchen & holding her up high to play with the chain lock on the door to hanging a bird feeder the backyard & watching Dora the Explorer together. For letting her slobber on his Rolex. And for cleaning her diapers... even the really dirty ones. For being devestated with each business trip, each day he has to be away from his family, for working crazy hours to support us, to ensure our happiness, he has become a true superstar in her eyes. And mine too. We love you Jeffy.
